Stage 1a commenced with significant site works. The site was a low-lying scrubland block within the Forrestdale Lake catchment area, meaning the site required a significant amount of clean fill. It also had issues with acid sulphate soils, is partially in the Dampier to Bunbury Gas Pipeline Buffer Zone, a bush forever zone to the east, a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) of 12.5, adjacent landowners looking to develop their land, and sub-divisional requirements through the WAPC to name a few.

Stage 1a & 1b included the construction of the Primary School Administration Building, Covered Assembly Space, Junior Primary Building (four x GLAs, Spillout space and toilets), Early Learning Centre (one three-year-old group, two x Kindergarten rooms and supporting facilities, two x Pre-Primary rooms and supporting facilities, external play area, storerooms, and toilets).
